You can also post your own questions and feedback. There is also a very Active forum with lots more advice, guidance and tips. (this is where the vids above came from). More than just a platformĪlso, whilst poking around I found that TrainerRoad isn’t just a platform, it’s a community. It’s the workouts that are the winning formulae and actually exactly what I have been looking for.

Plus this library is included in the cost of using the platform. But TrainerRoad has a VERY comprehensive workout library. So does this mean the 2 platforms are now similar? Well no, TrainingPeaks has tons and tons of graphs charts and reports etc that TrainerRoad is missing. This means that it pulls in my trainer workouts alongside my outdoor rides and allows me to plan and account for my complete TSS for a week. Once again I won’t go into the details as the same 3 musketeers do a rather good job of explaining it in the video below. But guess what, they now have this feature in TrainerRoad. This was something I really liked in TrainingPeaks. One of the other reasons I didn’t like it was because I couldn’t pull in ride data from external rides and they didn’t have a calendar feature. I won’t go into the nuts and bolts of the capability as the people from TrainerRoad do a very good job of that in this video. I don’t remember that from last time, and from web searches, I have subsequently done, I have confirmed that this is indeed a new capability.

To start with there is a pretty comprehensive ride analysis capability. However flaky my memory, TrainerRoad seems to have come along and plugged the gaps that made me stop using it.

I have to be fair in stating that I am writing this using my very flaky memory of what I remember about TrainerRoad. It seemed to be VERY much a case of using and logging their workouts and their workouts only. One of the main reason’s I didn’t consider TrainerRoad is it didn’t have a calendar and couldn’t import rides from outside. But, on closer inspection, there is a lot of extra goodness in there. Whilst Veloviewer is really neat it’s not helping me get any faster so it has to go.Īs I dusted down the TrainerRoad account it looked initially like the same platform I had used years ago. I have offset this by cancelling my Veloviewer account.

But that was a long time ago so I decided to dust off my TrainerRoad account and sign up. I have tried it before in the past but staring at graphs all the time leaves me a bit cold. It seems that whenever the question comes up on the web or on Youtube vids this is the one people go for. I can mark a ride as done outdoors but that’s about it. I can easily mix indoor and outdoor activities on TrainingPeaks which I can’t do on Zwift. However, it lacks the analysis tools and overall calendar view that TrainingPeaks gives you. It even has a workout builder which works in a very similar way to TrainingPeaks. Zwift has its own library of workouts and plans and these can be added to your calendar as you would expect. The lack of this ability has got me looking around. If I could create my own plans then I think I would stick with it but…. There are some REALLY cool features in TrainingPeaks but I have started wondering if it’s right for me. I simply don’t have these in my calendar yet. It is also heavily geared to peaking for A level races and events. I would have been happy if I could create my own training plan but this seems to be a feature for coaches only and that requires more money. I think for the serious athlete this would be acceptable but I am a long way from that. TrainingPeaks already has a fairly expensive cost (compared to others) and paying out extra for these plans seems excessive. It’s not that they don’t have them, but they all seem to be north of $100 for each plan. I have already mentioned that TrainingPeaks falls short when it comes to providing training plans. They have a library of workouts and workout plans. However, it has thrown up a new dilemma in my quest for mediocrity. I’m sure there is a novelty factor here that will wear off in time and I will get the indoor-outdoor balance right. In fact, I may be in danger of doing too much riding on Zwift. Zwift certainly provides a more entertaining way of riding indoors. Is TrainingPeaks right for me? In my last post, I talked about my use of Zwift for indoor training rides.
